City of Springfield seeks designs for utility box wraps in Springfield

The City of Springfield is once again seeking artists to create designs that can be reproduced as a vinyl wrap and applied to utility boxes throughout the city.

The project is designed to enhance neighborhood and community identity, turn ordinary spaces into community landmarks, and promote community dialogue. In 2022, over 30 local artists responded to a call for designs. Selections of submitted art were reproduced as a vinyl wrap and displayed on utility boxes throughout the city. Artists are once again invited to submit designs online. All submissions are due by September 10, 2023. Final artwork must be submitted as a high-quality digital file.

Artwork that is mindful of the diverse historical, geographical, and cultural heritage of Springfield is preferred. Artists should integrate the front, back, sides, and top of the box in their design.

This opportunity is open to artists of all levels who live in Springfield or Robertson County and are at least 14 years old.

Installation is expected to be completed by the end of December.

“We are excited to build on the success of the program and continue to transform utility boxes into distinctive works of art,” said Springfield Public Works Director Clayton Moore. “With several wraps already complete and positive feedback from the public, I hope artists will continue to share their talent with the community.”
