Joseph “Ditt” Thomas, age 87, of Springfield, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at his granddaughter’s home.
Mr. Thomas was born July 25, 1935 in Springfield to the late Cleland McKinney “C.M.” and Mary Elizabeth Edwards Thomas.
He worked as a Civil Engineer for the pipeline, was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea, and was a member of the North Springfield Baptist Church. Mr. Thomas was also a salesman at Gupton Motors for many years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomas is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Thomas, his daughter, Amy Moon, his brothers, Harrison Thomas and Robert Thomas, and his sister, Shirley Ann Goosetree. Mr. Thomas is survived by his sister, Melba Jean Tapp; his grandchildren, Patricia Moon, and Joe Moon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 11 am in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Jim Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 12, 2022 from 4-8 pm and again on Saturday from 10 am until the hour of service at 11 am.
