Morris Cecil Cox Obit

Morris Cecil Cox, 95, of Greenbrier, passed from this life on Sunday July 27, 2025, at his home. Celebration of Life services will be conducted Sunday September 14, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Cox was born August 5, 1929, in Baton Rouge, LA, to the late George Ira Cox and Ida Mae Barksdale Cox. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Devra Lynn Easterday, his parents, and seven brothers and sisters and their spouses. He was of the Christian faith and an active member of the Coopertown Community Church until its closure. His career of 42 years was in retail merchandising with J.C. Penny Co. and Pier 1 Imports. At retirement, he became a partner with his son at Tennessee Woodcrafters in Springfield, where he was actively involved for 30 more years. Mr. Cox loved to work and his favorite hobby was working. Other interests were LSU and Titan football and traveling. He also enjoyed cards and board games with family and was keen never to let them win. They had to earn it.

Mr. Cox is survived by the love of his life, his wife Dora Lou “DJ” Cox, of whom he was married to for 75 ½ years after a four year high school courtship. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Scott Turley, his son and daughter-in-law, Morris Wayne and Mary Cox, and his grandchildren, John David Heath and wife Alice, Brian Burr, Kevin Burr and wife Melissa, Keith Burr, Travis Easterday and wife Emily, Morris Spencer Cox and wife Kendall, Lauren Cox Oxford and wife Emma, Rosemary Cobb, and by four great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you contribute to the American Heart Association or to your preferred charity.
