Human remains were found on three consecutive days near Sulphur Fork Creek in Springfield, prompting an extended search by authorities,
Smokey Barn News reports.
A skull was found along the Greenway near the creek on Saturday. Search teams returned on Sunday and Monday, uncovering additional remains each day.
Divers and K-9 cadaver units assisted in the search, which focused on the creek and surrounding area. Officials said the recovered material showed signs of decomposition.
Although such searches can turn up animal remains or other organic matter, investigators confirmed the skull found Saturday and a leg recovered in July are human. Additional remains have been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for testing.
Authorities said final confirmation will depend on the results of the medical examiner’s report.
